Treasure Hunting News

Sunday, July 24th, 2005 - This has been a bad day.

I went to the garage and pulled out the XLT, fired it up and the display is broken, only half the LCD lines show up.

Time to call White's and find out how much it's going to cost to fix.

Thursday August 5th, 2004 - Wow, haven't updated this page in awhile. In recent days i've been to BCC and LSD looking for gold (Haven't found any) and fixed my XLT by re-seating the main processing chip.

This morning I found NINETY FIVE coins in one hole! Image Here I pulled all of these out of a hole about the size of a dinnerplate.

I was detecting near a public building here in AZ, and I was getting a ton of single penny signals. (so many I considered marking them out so I could hunt for bigger stuff).

Then I got near to the edge of a sidewalk and BEEEEEEEEEP!.

THIS got my attention, heh. I almost thought it was a soda can at first since it was showing 0 inches depth and reading about 6x8 inches in size.. Trying the vibraprobe I found half a dozen pennies in the grass, as I kept digging more kept turning up.

Frankly there are probably 3 times this many left there, but I got tired of digging, lol (afterwards I notched out pennies and hunted for bigger stuff).

An older gentleman came by and noticed my find, he commented: "Well, right where that statue is (about 3 feet away) there used to be a low fountain".

I would bet money these are coins tossed towards the fountain that missed and fell into the grass.

That also explains all the single signals of pennies I noticed in the area.

Most of the dates I can read are in the 1970's and only a few are 80's or newer. I seriously doubt the area has been detected at all within the 30 years the building has stood there. I think I'll go back over the site in a jewelry-only mode tomorrow morning.

Anyway, it was a fun morning regardless of the weather: [Phoenix, Arizona] Cloudy, Currently: 30C (86F), High: 41C (105F), Low: 28C (83F), Feels Like: 30C (86F), Wind: calm, Humidity: 35%, Visibility: Unlimited, Sunrise: 5:45 am, Sunset: 7:25 pm. (The temp isn't bad in the morning, but the calm wind really makes it rough)

If anyone in Phoenix wants to know where I found these send me an e-mail and I'll take you there, especially if you have any kids that want to get started, it would be a real fun spot for them.

Thursday May 1st, 2003 - Haven't been out in a LONG time really. I hit a few sites up on Tonto Creek northeast of Payson and found some clad and a key (I think I was at the site of some old cabins that are now National Forest).

I ripped apart my Whites XLT and converted it to run on 8 D-cell batteries, Click Here if you want to see it (This is actually 2 images, the top one is the old battery pack I butchered, and the external batteries, the second is the hole I had to make in the back of my detector). Send me an e-mail if you want detailed instructions on how to do this to your own detector.

Friday, August 3rd, 2001 - Well, pulled a nice looking copper (might be copper clad) medal from a schoolyard wednesday. Didn't head out Thursday.. planning to go out tonight tho. The finds form has been updated BTW, Click Here if you want a copy to use.

Tuesday, July 31st, 2001 - Another day, more clad and pulltabs.. heh.. here is a link to the Detector Laws Sheet I made up, it's mainly for Arizona, but it also covers BLM land, national forest, shipwrecks, etc.

Monday, July 30th, 2001 - Best day yet, found a 1899 Morgan Dollar in Fine/Veryfine condition in a park near me, looks like some kid must have dropped it in the sand.

Sunday, July 29th, 2001 - Added the Finds pages, if you want the Excel spreadsheet let me know.. it's still a work in progress. I hit the oldest park I could find tonight, I found a small gold ring and a Susan B. Anthony Dollar before I got rained out. (2 gold rings in 5 days.. almost commercial material.. heh)

Saturday, July 28th, 2001 - Well got thrown out of another park tonight for being there after it was "closed", heh.

Friday, July 27th, 2001 - Got a shot at the volleyball court at my friends apartment complex.. lots of quarters, and a few toy cars, then we went to his friends house and I found a gun in the yard (toy).

Wednesday, July 25th, 2001 - Well the detector and pinpointer got here.. i'm off to go digging.

Sunday, July 22nd, 2001 - Still waiting on my White's XLT and the Vibraprobe to get here.. (I hate UPS.. heh)
